Urban school requires expansion for modern facilities
Canisius High School, located in the city of Buffalo, needed additional modern classroom and athletic facilities. The parameters for a successful campus expansion included:
Use Uniland Construction’s Design/Build process to minimize cost and construction time
Uniland Development Company’s proposal for a redesigned classroom wing and athletic fieldhouse was 30% less than the school’s estimate from a previous firm. Because Uniland’s Design/Build process includes value engineering for each step, the plan was more efficient, better designed, and cost less.
To ensure the project was completed on-time and with minimal disruptions, Uniland Construction Corporation managed all aspects of the project including school access, traffic patterns, construction staging, and safety. Uniland’s Planning and Design, Marketing and Capital Markets departments helped expedite regulatory approvals, obtain support from the community, and secured tax-exempt financing. Demolition and construction began in April 2008 when drawings were just 40% complete.
Canisius receives largest expansion since 1948
Canisius High School’s new, modern facilities were delivered on budget and in time for the start of the 2009 school year. The academic hall features state-of-the-art science labs and math classrooms, as well as a new studio for art classes and a greatly expanded cafeteria. The field house is the home to Crusader volleyball, basketball, wrestling, and gym classes. It also houses a conference center.
