Architectural/Interior Designer Mary Hazlett Receives “40 Under 40” Award

Architectural Interior Designer Mary Hazlett has been honored by Buffalo Business First as a “40 Under 40” award winner for 2018. The award honors professionals in Western New York who excel in both their careers and in the community. Mrs. Hazlett was selected from nearly 160 applicants.

As the principal interior designer for Uniland Development Company, Mrs. Hazlett has helped a broad range of clients create workspaces that embody the culture and brand attributes of their organization and residences that reflect an owner’s style.

Mary Hazlett

Since joining Uniland in 2007, Mrs. Hazlett has helped design the interiors of hundreds of thousands of square feet of commercial and residential space in the region. Her portfolio includes the stunning common areas of the Delaware North Building, exceptional offices and condos at Avant, creative and functional new school and headquarter offices for Autism Services Inc., and the modern and collaborative interior of D’Youville College’s School of Arts, Sciences and Education building.

In addition to putting her stamp on the local business community, Mrs. Hazlett has produced similar results in the community. For the past 15 years, she has volunteered at the Graycliff Conservancy, the non-profit that maintains the famed Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Graycliff Estate in nearby Derby, New York. Part of her service included redesigning the interior of the Graycliff Visitor Center and designing the gift shop renovation in 2014.

Mrs. Hazlett is training to become a docent to provide tours at the Darwin D. Martin House complex, also a Frank Lloyd Wright design. At her local church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Eggertsville, Mrs. Hazlett serves as the art room coordinator, and is a confirmation mentor for the church’s youth. Additionally, she is a member of the Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club’s J33 Republic all-women’s sailing club, and serves as Director of Creative and Strategic Planning at her husband’s custom guitar parts company, AxetremeCreations.

Mrs. Hazlett is an alumna of the Ohio State University, where she graduated, magna cum laude, with a B.S. in industrial and interior design. She has received prominent industry certifications, including a Green Globes Professional (GGP) by the Green Building Initiative and National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ) by the Council for Interior Design Qualification.

She was acknowledged with her fellow honorees at the 26th Annual “40 Under 40” awards luncheon on November 30 at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.
