Uniland Development Company and Mountain Development Corp. announce next phase in Eastern Hills Mall redevelopment

Jul 18, 2023

Eastern Hills Town Center

Clarence, NY – Plans to redevelop the Eastern Hills Mall into Western New York’s first walkable, mixed-use Town Center will soon take the next step as ownership has announced that it will begin vacating interior portions of the mall in early 2024.  The move streamlines the process for partial demolition and redevelopment of the mall property after municipal approvals are secured.

“Over time, you’re going to see the Mall begin its metamorphosis into a new Town Center,” highlighted Carl J. Montante, Jr., vice president of Marketing and Strategic Initiatives for Uniland. “When the Town Center Concept Plan was initially submitted, we described the process as turning the Mall inside out.  Most of the interior corridors that exist today will be transformed into exterior storefronts, broad sidewalks, parks, and heavily landscaped streets.”

Some merchants will be relocated to new locations on the property, and others will be introduced to real estate brokerages who will assist them in finding a new location.  Nearly all merchants with exterior entrances are expected to remain open.

Plans for the Eastern Hills Town Center include revitalizing an aging, 100-acre shopping complex with the infill development of new office, medical, residential, shopping, dining, recreational, and civic areas to create a truly unique, village-like environment. Located on the Clarence/Amherst border between Main Street, Transit Road, and Sheridan Drive, the project has the potential to become a new regional destination for both residents, businesses, and tourists, as nothing on this scale currently exists in the Western New York region.

Upon full buildout, the Town Center is planning approximately 1,500 residential units and one million square feet of office and medical space, multiple restaurants, retail stores, and hotels. Most of site will be accessible within a 10-minute walk, supporting smart growth by reducing car dependency and enhancing quality of life.  The full build-out of the project is expected to take ten years or more to complete.

Uniland invites restaurateurs, breweries, healthcare providers, and businesses seeking office space to be the first to enjoy the numerous benefits of locating at the Eastern Hills Town Center.
