Uniland Founder Carl Montante to Be Inducted into WNY Business Hall of Fame

Aug 6, 2026

Uniland Development Company Executive Chairman Carl J. Montante has been selected for induction into the Western New York Business Hall of Fame as a member of its Class of 2026. Established in 2017 by Buffalo Business First, The Buffalo History Museum, and other community partners, the Business Hall of Fame recognizes the entrepreneurs, executives, inventors, and visionaries who have had an indelible impact on the growth of Buffalo and the surrounding eight-county region. As a member of its 10th class, Mr. Montante joins one of Western New York’s most exclusive groups of business leaders. He becomes one of only 41 inductees in the Hall of Fame’s history and just the eighth honoree from the real estate industry.

Mr. Montante’s induction reflects more than five decades of leadership that has enhanced the Buffalo region’s built environment, business community, and cultural life. In announcing this year’s inductees, Buffalo Business First noted that “the region’s skyline would look dramatically different” without the contributions of Hall of Fame honorees and their family businesses. Since founding Uniland Development Company in 1974 with a single warehouse in Tonawanda, Mr. Montante has grown the firm into one of Western New York’s largest and most influential commercial real estate developers.

Over the past 50+ years, his entrepreneurial vision has helped create many of the region’s most prominent office parks, industrial facilities, and mixed-use destinations. These iconic developments span from Sheridan Meadows Corporate Park, University Corporate Centre, and CrossPoint Business Park in Amherst to Avant and The Delaware North Building, two modern icons of the downtown Buffalo skyline, among many others. Under his leadership, Uniland has also delivered transformative projects for many of the region’s leading education, healthcare, and nonprofit organizations, including Canisius High School and Canisius University, D’Youville University, Catholic Health, FeedMore WNY, BestSelf Behavioral Health, People Inc., and Evergreen Health.

Mr. Montante’s commitment to excellence extends well beyond the commercial real estate industry. Throughout his career, he has paired business success with an unwavering dedication to strengthening the Buffalo community. He has devoted his time and expertise to more than two dozen business, educational, cultural, and charitable organizations, including board leadership roles with D’Youville University, Invest Buffalo Niagara, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, KeyBank, The Buffalo Club, Kissing Bridge, and the Western New York Graduate Medical Education Consortium. He has also served as board chairman of Catholic Health, Canisius University, Canisius High School, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, these efforts reflect a legacy of service that has helped strengthen many of the institutions that define Western New York.

A Buffalo native, Mr. Montante graduated from Canisius High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Canisius University and both an LL.B. and J.D. from the University at Buffalo School of Law.

Buffalo Business First will publish an in-depth profile exploring the many facets of Mr. Montante’s distinguished career this fall, coinciding with the Western New York Business Hall of Fame’s 10th induction ceremony on October 14.
