Property Management Director Doug Engl has been honored by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Greater Buffalo with a Lifetime Achievement Award. BOMA is a global organization representing the owners and managers of all commercial property types, including nearly 10.5 billion square feet of U.S. office space. The BOMA Awards honor individuals and companies who exemplify outstanding leadership, achievement, and professionalism in the real estate industry.
Mr. Engl will be retiring in December 2018 after more than 30 years in commercial real estate. His decades of property management expertise include assets such as the world-class mixed use facilities at The Delaware North Building in Buffalo and Amherst’s vast and diverse business parks. John Dieter, Uniland’s Senior Operations Manager, will succeed Mr. Engl as Director of Property Management effective January 1, 2019.
Since joining Uniland in 1986, Mr. Engl has risen from a Junior Property Manager to Director of Property Management. In his current role, he leads a staff of over 40 property managers, administrators, and maintenance personnel overseeing all functions related to customer service and tenant relations in Buffalo and Rochester.
Reflecting on Mr. Engl’s career, Uniland President and Managing Director Carl J. Montante noted, “Doug has developed an excellent staff that reflects the core values of Uniland, with special attention to excellence, professionalism and customer focus. For years, he and his team have effectively managed Uniland’s 6,000,000-square-foot portfolio of properties.”
As noted in the BOMA Lifetime Achievement Award citation, “Mr. Engl has advanced the property management field, mentored countless colleagues and advanced a culture of superior customer service and client relations. He helps foster a Buffalo Niagara region that is a great place to live, work and play.”
In addition to furthering the property management profession, Mr. Engl has been a leading evangelist for financial wellness at Uniland and in the community. He dedicates countless hours educating others about personal finance so they can prevent or eliminate debt and leave behind a legacy. His warm approach to a serious subject, peppered with jokes and anecdotes, has had a positive impact of the lives of many people.
